The Tittabawassee River is back on course through the Sanford Dam, thanks to work recently completed by Fisher Contracting to construct a berm across the breach channel. This restored 100% of the flow of the Tittabawassee River through the newly constructed weir. Watch the video below for drone footage of the work. This is an important next step in preparing for dam restoration.

FLTF is closing one of the two gates at Secord Dam on a temporary basis for work on the low-level intake structure. The lake is not being refilled and little change in Secord Lake level is expected. This gate will be closed for periods of time over the next several weeks while stop-logs are installed to enable work to be completed safely. The gate will be returned to its fully opened position after the work. This work is for inspection and the beginning of upgrades for the restoration, which are planned to start later this year. The gate will tentatively close early morning on Wednesday, July 27th.
Today FLTF posted its formal response to the Independent Forensic Team's (IFT) final report on the failure of the Edenville and Sanford dams. FLTF's overall conclusion is that the report is robust. We are taking the learnings outlined in the report and addressing them in our plans going forward.
On Monday, May 16th, the Tobacco Spillway fishing area (east side of the water channel below the dam) will be closed for the day while crews finish existing work from the fall and winter on the dam. The fishing area will be open to the public again on May 17th.
On Monday, April 25th, Midland City Council met in a special meeting with FLTF and the City's Advisory Committee on Infrastructure to discuss updates on dam restoration and hydrology studies. Monthly dam restoration progress meeting to discuss value engineering, dam restoration, permitting, and a natural resources restoration study. Participants included representatives from Four Lakes Task Force, Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, United States Fish and Wildlife Service, Natural Resources Conservation Service, GEI Consultants and Spicer Group.
