Sanford Lake Refill Process
5/4/2026
The winter lake level hold was lifted, and we started to raise Sanford Lake level on Friday, May 1st. The lake is now at an elevation of 630.0 feet (within legal level range) with 6 inches to go until it reaches the maximum range of Sanford's legal level (630.5 feet). The lake level order states the legal level is 630.2 feet, with a range of 0.3 feet higher and 0.4 feet lower (630.5 feet and 629.8 feet). We plan to maintain the lake at 630.5 feet as this level more closely matches where the lake was maintained in the past during the daytime.

March saw the full spectrum of Michigan spring, including sun, snow and lots of rain. Our crews took advantage of the weather to make progress toward meeting milestones, but high water levels are creating challenging conditions and slowing work, particularly at the Smallwood and Secord sites. Sanford Lake residents will see the water level rise starting on April 15th. Click the button below to learn more about the construction on each dam.

Our crews had small stretches of favorable weather in February that allowed us to catch up to maintain construction schedules. Despite the cold, crews are moving forward by creating forms and pouring concrete. Our construction newsletter highlights the specific work completed last month and new upcoming milestones for the dams.
