Smallwood Dam Receives Approval From EGLE
7/16/2026

On July 21, representatives from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy inspected Smallwood Dam and approved the dam for lake refill pending completion of a few activities. These activities are planned to be completed over the next two weeks and lake refill will begin the first week of August.
Weather Impacts Smallwood Substantial Completion Date
7/2/2026
Work slowed on Smallwood last week due to severe heat and air quality issues. Because of this, the Smallwood Dam substantial completion date has moved from the end of July to the first week of August. The delay does not affect the dam inspection being performed by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy on July 21.

Smallwood Lake Refill
7/16/2026
Smallwood Dam nears completion and we want to provide information for the lake refill. We estimate refill to take 57 days and Smallwood to reach its normal legal level in Late September. This estimate is weather-dependent. We ask property owners to perform basic shoreline cleanup to minimize the amount of debris that builds up. Click the link below to learn more about the refill and to view the property owner checklist.

Secord and Edenville Substantial Completion and Lake Refill Update
7/16/2026

Secord: Secord Dam is on track for substantial completion in September 2026. Because we will have low flow rates and are unable to refill October 1-April 15, we will wait to refill Secord Lake until April 2027.
Edenville: Edenville Dam is on track to be substantially completed by September 2027. Wixom Lake will be partially refilled in stages as construction phases are completed.

FLTF Lake System Information Map

FLTF released a new interactive map of the Four Lakes system. The map shows information such as: Depth contours, historic flowage rights, environmental mitigation projects, flood hazard areas, and updated aerial imagery. This is a useful tool for property owners and boaters to understand the lake system better.
