Today FLTF posted its formal response to the Independent Forensic Team's (IFT) final report on the failure of the Edenville and Sanford dams. FLTF's overall conclusion is that the report is robust. We are taking the learnings outlined in the report and addressing them in our plans going forward.
FLTF notes a key learning for all dam owners and regulators is there must be transparency and open lines of communication regarding the long-term financing planned for the sustainability of their lakes, especially those that are impounded by a dam. Lake associations, townships and counties, if they aren’t being included, should insist on being part of the conversation and bring in their own experts.
FLTF's report has been submitted to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE), the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the IFT. We are grateful for IFT's work and appreciative of this opportunity to respond to the findings.
