The exposed bottoms of the lakes and rivers in Gladwin and Midland counties continue to be unstable in many areas. Public safety identified significant erosion issues that created crevices that are life-threatening if individuals are snowmobiling in these areas. With winter and snowfall coming, the current ground conditions and water levels indicate that accessing these areas or operating a snowmobile or other vehicle could result in serious injury or death. Moreover, local public safety agencies will have significant challenges in reaching and rescuing individuals in a timely manner in the event an individual is injured while in these areas. Please prevent critical injuries and loss of life. Do not put our local first responders at risk. Please stay off the bottoms of the lakes and rivers this winter.
