All Four Dams Under Construction The Sanford Dam permit for restoration construction was approved Thursday, October 26th, by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy. The construction crews are mobilizing and work is expected to start this week. "This was a significant effort by the Four Lakes Task Force team and I appreciate all the work of our consultants and volunteers who helped make this happen," said Dave Kepler, president of Four Lakes Task Force. "This was also a significant undertaking by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, that has regulatory authority over the dams, given unusual circumstances."
The permitting process was complex with many factors to address under the Michigan Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act including dam safety, floodplains, wetlands, lakes and streams. It is a great achievement to have construction underway on all four dams. Comments are closed.
