Sanford Dam 60% Design Submitted to EGLE

11/4/2022

The Sanford Dam EGLE permit was submitted on November 1, 2022, and contained the following:
Picture
  • 60% Dam Safety Design
  • All supporting information per EGLE’s permitting requirements for 100% Environmental Impacts to the following regulated parts:
    • 301 – Inland Lakes & Streams
    • 303 – Wetlands Protection
    • 315 – Dam Safety
    • 31 – Floodplain

The submittal initiated the review process to receive a permit for dam construction activities impacting regulated environmental areas. This is significant as construction in these specific regulated areas cannot occur without an EGLE permit.

Next steps:
  1. Respond to any correction requests EGLE provides during its review of the application and supporting documents.
  2. When deemed administratively complete, EGLE will place the permit on public notice. FLTF will coordinate with EGLE to schedule a public hearing to be held during the public notice period, similar to what was conducted at the upper two dams.
    • FLTF will address any comments received during the public notice period and public hearing.
  3. Once 100% design documents and technical specifications are complete, FLTF will provide them to EGLE for review and comment.
  4. EGLE will issue a permit once complete with permit application review and review/acceptance of 100% design documents and technical specifications.

The final permitting of Sanford Dam is expected by mid-2023. Edenville is expected sometime by the end of 2023. There is anticipated work to be done on both Edenville and Sanford in 2023 ahead of the final permit and construction. The lake refills are still planned for 2024 for Secord and Smallwood, 2025 for Sanford, and 2026 for Wixom.
