In spring 2022, Four Lakes Task Force began the process to pre-qualify construction firms for the Secord and Smallwood dam restoration projects. The result is a list of eight contractors. Of those, four confirmed their intention to bid. One company is local to the Great Lakes Bay Region. The formal bid documents were released on October 17, 2022. Companies that receive the formal bid package will be asked to provide information about health and safety performance, relevant project experience, insurance and financial capacity, and contractor integrity. The prequalification requirements were prepared in collaboration with Spicer Group, lead project engineering firm for FLTF and in accordance with criteria set forth in Part 307.
It is FLTF’s aim to use as much local labor as possible on the projects. The bid documents contain requests for local subcontracting specifically in the areas of trucking, labor, and provision of materials such as sand, rocks, metal and so on. All bidders will be asked to provide details about their plans to use local subcontractors. The bid documents also address safety performance and practices of the companies. FLTF expects the chosen firm to uphold the highest level of safety practices to ensure no harm to people, the community or the environment. The prequalification and bidding process is on schedule, based on the timelines provided by FLTF in March 2022. See a list of FAQs regarding bidding here. Comments are closed.
