On Monday, December 5th FLTF shared its new Four Lakes Special Assessment District methodology. The methodology is applied to every parcel in the Special Assessment District to determine the annual operations assessment for the parcel. The new methodology has several additional benefit factors and some major changes compared to the methodology presented in 2020. Changes were made in response to property owner feedback and in an effort to more evenly distribute operations costs across all properties. For example, instead of a headwater factor applied to properties near the dams, now every property has water view and water depth factors.
Additionally, in the previous methodology, property owners paid for 100% of the operations costs. Now, FLTF is proposing that Gladwin and Midland counties, the Village of Sanford and nine townships collectively pay for 30% of the operations costs, lowering the burden on property owners.
