November construction newsletter

Secord and Smallwood work sites suspended work at the end of October. The crews demobilized equipment as work was completed. FLTF will continue to monitor the three suspended dams with safety inspections. Sanford work will continue until the end of January. The crew will complete Phase 2 of the cofferdam before fully suspending work.

This will be our last construction update until construction restarts, hopefully in spring of 2025.

October Construction Newsletter

Secord and Smallwood are demobilizing crews in preparation for the upcoming suspension this month. The crews are ensuring that the dam is in a safe and stable condition while the litigation surrounding the appeal continues. We have an updated completion date graphic on our dams page. Meanwhile, Sanford work continues until January. The crew is pouring concrete in the powerhouse, low level outlet and the retaining walls. The suspension schedule is highlighted in the latest construction newsletter. Edenville construction is already suspended, with Smallwood following in September, Secord in October, and Sanford in January. We continue to work through the Michigan Court of Appeals case and hope crews can get back to work again in the spring/summer of 2025.

The work at Edenville is suspended but it remains in safe and stable condition. Second, Smallwood and Sanford work continues according to their suspension plans. Each of the three dams is working on erecting formwork and pouring concrete. Read more in the construction news.

Construction crews are having to prepare for cold weather conditions with winter in full swing. February construction news includes a summary of the FLTF comprehensive winter weather work plans and an update for each dam.

In July we placed concrete and achieved 95% installation completion of the Secord steel sheet pile auxiliary spillway among other things. These activities are closely monitored by the project team to ensure a durable final product.

Our functional project team has built incredible programs related to the sections contained in this update, including the update itself. The communities we are working in and the authorities with jurisdiction over the projects have been second to none.
