As kids, some of us might remember the story of "Rip Van Winkle" who falls deeply asleep in the Catskill Mountains, awaking 20 years later having missed the American Revolution. Four Lakes Task Force (FLTF) occasionally will receive questions along the lines of “what’s going on with those lakes? and what did I hear about an assessment?” If old Rip had gone to sleep in 2019 in Midland or Gladwin county, and just woke up today, he would have missed the most significant disaster to ever occur in the region followed by a significant infrastructure project to restore four lakes that included engineering, permitting, rebuilding and the creation of a Lake Level Special Assessment District.
